Syrian election official says parliament set to convene after completion of voting

Damascus :  Syria’s Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections said the completion of voting in the Hasakah, Qamishli, al-Malikiyah and Ain al-Arab districts paves the way for the first session of the new parliament.

Nawar Najmeh, spokesperson for the committee, told SANA that the People’s Assembly would convene after the president announces the names of members appointed to the remaining one-third of the chamber.

Najmeh said the election process in Hasakah province and the Ain al-Arab district in Aleppo province had concluded successfully.

Earlier, the committee announced the closure of polling stations in the Hasakah and Qamishli electoral districts and the start of vote counting.

Farhad Anwar Shaheen and Shawakh Ibrahim al-Assaf won the parliamentary seats allocated to the Ain al-Arab district in Aleppo province, according to the committee.
