Taiwan Parliamentary Group for Tibet Congratulates Sikyong Penpa Tsering on Re-election

Taiwan: The Taiwan Parliamentary Group for Tibet has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Sikyong Penpa Tsering on his re-election as Sikyong of the 17th Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration.

On behalf of the group, President Wu Pei-yi (Member of the Legislative Yuan) wrote to Sikyong Penpa Tsering conveying best wishes and reaffirming continued support for the Tibetan cause.

In the letter, the group stated, “Throughout his tenure, Sikyong Penpa Tsering has consistently devoted himself to advancing the democratic system of the Tibetan people, safeguarding fundamental human rights, preserving Tibetan religion and culture, and advocating within the international community for a peaceful and non-violent resolution of the Tibetan issue. He has reaffirmed to the world that Tibet has never been a part of China since ancient times and has called for a just resolution to the Tibetan issue. This consecutive re-election not only demonstrates the trust and support of the global Tibetan community in his leadership, but also symbolises the continued resilience and progress of Tibetan democracy in exile.”

The Taiwan Parliamentary Group for Tibet further stated, “Although Taiwan and Tibet have different historical backgrounds, both equally cherish the universal values of freedom, democracy, rule of law, human rights, and cultural dignity. The people of Taiwan deeply admire the Tibetan people for their long-standing perseverance in protecting their faith, language, culture, and ethnic identity, as well as the unique heritage of the Tibetan Plateau—the world’s ‘Third Pole’.”

“We firmly believe that the Tibetan people’s commitment to peace, compassion, and truth represents an essential moral force in today’s world, especially in the face of growing authoritarian expansion and worsening human rights crises.”

The Taiwan Parliamentary Group for Tibet added that it looks forward to deeper exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the Central Tibetan Administration in the fields of democratic governance, human rights advocacy, religious freedom, cultural preservation, educational exchange, and international engagement, and to working hand in hand to foster an even stronger and more enduring partnership.

The letter concluded with wishes for Sikyong Penpa Tsering and the 17th Kashag every success in the new term, continued improvement in the well-being of Tibetans worldwide, and the early realisation of freedom, human rights, and justice for Tibet.
