HYDERABAD : The Telangana Legislative Assembly’s ethics committee has confirmed it will table its formal report regarding BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy during the upcoming legislative session. The decision follows a request from committee chairman Revuri Prakash Reddy, which was officially approved by Speaker G. Prasad Kumar on Wednesday.
The inquiry centers on allegations of misconduct involving the Huzurabad legislator during a debate on mining irregularities held in March. According to reports, the incident occurred when Kadiyam Srihari was addressing the House and criticizing the previous BRS administration. It is alleged that Kaushik Reddy interrupted the speech to question Srihari’s party affiliation, subsequently engaging in behavior that included making threatening gestures, such as mimicking the act of firing a weapon.
Details of the Ethics Inquiry:
Following the incident, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar referred the matter to the ethics committee for a thorough investigation. The committee, which is tasked with maintaining decorum within the House, includes members from various political parties, such as Congress MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy, BRS MLAs Vemula Prashanth Reddy and T. Padma Rao, BJP MLA Paidi Rakesh Reddy, and CPI MLA Sambasiva Rao.
The investigation has drawn sharp criticism from within the BRS ranks. Committee member and BRS MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy has characterized the proceedings as a form of political vendetta. He alleged that the current Congress-led government is utilizing ethics and inquiry panels as tools to suppress opposition legislators who actively challenge the administration on public policy matters.
Broader Legislative Oversight:
The assembly is not the only body addressing internal conduct. The Legislative Council’s ethics committee, chaired by B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, is also preparing to review cases involving MLCs Tata Madhusudhan and Ramesh Reddy. These matters are scheduled to be heard during the next council session.
Under current legislative norms, both the assembly and the council are required to finalize and deliver their decisions regarding member conduct during their respective sessions. The upcoming reports are expected to clarify the findings of these committees and determine what, if any, further action will be taken against the legislators involved.
