Damascus : Following the announcement of the official list of members appointed by Syrian Interim Prime Minister Ahmad al-Sharaa within his quota for the Syrian Parliament, the formation of the legislature was completed with a total of 210 members. Of these, 140 members were selected through electoral bodies, while 70 members were appointed by al-Sharaa’s decree. This excludes seats allocated to Suwayda Governorate, where procedures to select representatives have not yet been finalized.
The number of women in parliament reached 22 out of 210 members, representing 10.48% of the total. Among them, 7 members were selected through electoral bodies, while 15 were appointed by al-Sharaa.
Although the electoral system for the interim phase stipulated a target of at least 20% female representation in the composition of electoral bodies, women’s representation in parliament after the completion of its formation stands at 22 members out of 210, or approximately 10.48% of the total, falling short of the targeted quota.
